Melanie Ryder
LMHC, R-DMT
Drawing from both expressive arts and clinical mental health counseling, I’m passionate about helping children, adolescents, and families navigate life’s challenges with compassion, creativity, and evidence-based care.
I have a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy from Lesley University, along with dual bachelor’s degrees in Business and Dance from Springfield College. My work is grounded in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices, and I’ve spent over a decade working in schools, residential treatment centers, and community mental health settings.
I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral challenges, and neurodivergent needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I’m trained in Motivational Interviewing and approaches like TF-CBT and SMART (Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment). My style is warm, relational, and strength-based, and I really believe that healing happens when people feel truly seen, heard, and supported. I often support children and families in building emotional regulation skills, strengthening self-esteem, and developing tools to navigate stress, transitions, and identity exploration.
A big part of my approach is integrating creativity and movement into the work. As a lifelong dancer and choreographer, I’ve seen how powerful movement can be in helping people reconnect with their bodies, express emotions, and build confidence. I like to bring in elements of dance, yoga, mindfulness, and expressive arts—especially when feelings are hard to put into words. My experience teaching ballet, lyrical, jazz, acro, and contemporary dance to kids and teens also really shapes the energy, structure, and playfulness I bring into sessions.
Outside of work, you can usually find me spending time with my dog, Grizzly, crafting, or being with my family. I care deeply about the mind-body connection, the healing power of creativity and play, and creating a space where clients of all identities and abilities feel supported.
